Chair of Education Advisory Committee

Prosiect Dyslecsia Cymru / Welsh Dyslexia Project has succeeded in securing the services of a world-renowed researcher in the field of dyslexia to chair its Education Advisory Committee.

Professor Angela Fawcett, is the Director of the Centre for Child Research at Swansea University, and is one of the foremost researchers in dyslexia.  She will also be a member of the management committee of PDC/WDP responsible for the governance of a Wales provider / charity of services and support for people with dyslexia/SpLD.

The Education Advisory Committee will advise and provide guidance on the educational and professional services of PDC/WDP to ensure that they continue to meet the highest standards of evidence-based practice. The committee will also have and overview of the development of new educational services in terms of quality and standards. This will be for both the Welsh and English language.

One of the main objectives of this Committee is to try and influence and build on ‘the good practice that already exists in Wales' as far as teaching and supporting pupils with specific learning difficulties (dyslexia) is concerned. It will also aim to ensure that children, young people and adults with dyslexia have the opportunity to work to their full potential.

Angela will be assisted by Neil Mackay, an independent dyslexia consultant, who was responsible for the idea of ’Dyslexia Friendly Schools’.

Other members of the Advisory Committee are:   Barbara Horsfall-Turner.

Amanda McCreadie.

Paula Hassall.

Nest Tudur-Efans.

Jenny Barber.

Michael Davies.
